Pantera set free in Amazone Active Centre

Following on from its LAMMA, interested spraying contractors and farmers came into the AMAZONE Active Centre in Harworth for a Pantera ‘drive & feel’ day. Rather than trying to set time aside during the hustle and bustle of LAMMA (or having to stand outside in the cold!), the ‘drive & feel’ day gave everyone ample time to take a closer look and with visitors from as far afield as Northumberland and Essex it also gave everybody a chance to swop ideas and views on professional plant protection application techniques.
Simon Brown, Brand Manager at Amazone Ltd welcomed the group and gave a brief insight into the philosophy behind the Pantera project ‘entry into the self-propelled market with our own in-house developed and manufactured product represents a major milestone in the company’s history’ commented Simon ‘but building on the 40-odd years of experience and on the strength of the mounted and trailed sprayers this represents the last piece in the jigsaw for Amazone to become a full-line plant protection equipment manufacturer’.
Also impressive is that the Pantera was, from concept to drawing board and into full production in less than 2 years. A complete new team was established to bring the product to fruitition with all aspects of design, manufacture, service and parts being covered by specialist personnel. The Pantera is not just being built in-house but also, whether it be cab, engine, drive or the spray package, the Pantera is being fully supported in all areas by the Amazone team.
The group then had the chance to crawl all over the machine with Amazone territory managers Paul Dodd, Nigel Jones and Peter Gregory taking charge of specific areas of cab & operation, drive & chassis, mixing & filling and boom functionality; neither did the Pantera disappoint with the group impressed by the wealth of technological features that ooze from the machine:
• Speed and direction sensing self-levelling suspension
• Speed dependent management system
• Headland management
• Hi-speed fill and mix with spraying speeds up to 20 kph and up to 40 kph on the road
• Automated boom section shut-off with parallel tracking
• Engine management for reduced fuel consumption
• Comfort cab with all the frills
• 12 tonne towing capacity with air trailer brakes
After a brief pause for lunch the group took the machine out in the yard for a ‘first drive’ to whet the appetite as to what is on offer from the all-new Pantera self-propelled sprayer.
